Mér datt í hug að setja smá upplýsingar um Traveller heiminn, fyrir þá sem þekkja ekki þennan heim.

Svona til að stelast aðeins, þá afrita ég smá kafla frá einum höfunda Traveller T20 kerfinu um Traveller.

What is Traveller

Traveller is one of the oldest veterans in the role-playing industry, the very first edition, now known as Classic Traveller, was first released in 1977. It has been through six different sets of rules (Classic, along with MegaTraveller, Traveller: The New Era, Marc Miller's Traveller, GURPS: Traveller, and now Traveller20), two of which are still in print (GT and T20), along with the reprints of Classic Traveller available from Far Future Enterprises. Throughout it all, Traveller has remained a fan favorite and become a true classic.

Ask any two fans to tell you what makes Traveller so special and you are most likely to get two different answers. One will tell you Traveller is a game of science fiction role-playing within one of the most fully realized campaign settings ever created. The other will tell you that Traveller is a set of rules that will let you design your own science fiction universe to explore, complete with custom starships, worlds, animals and more. And both would be right.

When it was first released, Traveller was designed to allow the referee to be able to recreate their favorite science fiction universe from film or literature, or develop one of their own. There was no official campaign setting, yet. Rules were provided for creating characters complete with a rich background history, combat, traveling among the stars, along with trade and commerce among worlds. What truly set Traveller apart, and still does to this day, are the rules for designing your own customized small space craft, starships, even entire worlds and sectors of space. Anything from a small 10-ton spacefighter, to a free trader's tramp merchant ship, to a 1,000,000-ton battle planetoid can be built with a little imagination and a notepad.

As the popularity of the game grew however, many referees had expressed interest in seeing the ‘house’ campaign being used by the original designers. The official campaign setting for Traveller, commonly referred to as the Official Traveller Universe or OTU, was first described in detail with the publication of Classic Traveller Supplement 3 - The Spinward Marches, and has continued in development over the next 25 years. The OTU details a history spanning hundreds of thousands of years, and encompassing literally tens of thousands of worlds. Humaniti has come to dominate this small region of the galaxy, but other races such as the felinoid and feudalistic Aslan, the genetically uplifted canine race known as the Vargr, the herbivorous K'kree and their militant vegetarianism, along with the enigmatic hexapods known as the Hivers, have all still carved out significant empires of their own.

Even among Humaniti itself it was discovered that there are no less than 16 known branches that have developed independently on worlds separated by thousands of light-years, apparently seeded there long ago for some unknown purpose by a race known as the Ancients. Some of these branches were genetically engineered by the ancients to either allow the humans to survive in the local environment more efficiently, or for other more unfathomable reasons known only to the Ancients themselves.

So whether you are looking for a ‘generic’ set of rules that will allow you to recreate any science fiction setting, or you are looking for a detailed and established campaign setting with a coherent history, rich with detail and potential for adventure, Traveller makes it available to you.
