Info on zombies and the disease.



First you should try to forget everything Hollywood movies have taught you about zombies. The only film that comes close to the depiction of realistic zombies is the English horror film 28 Days Later, in this film a virus is released from a laboratory and causes humans to become extremley voilent and have a craving for human flesh.
In real life the condition that causes this or as some call it the “zombie disease” is called “Myxobolus Haemosteomyelitisnarcosa” (M. H.) which roughly translates “blood/bone-inflammatory-stupor parasite”. M.H. is actully a mutated cousin of Myxosporean parasite called “Myxobolus cerebralis” this parasite is often found in salmon and trout. This parasite causes nerve damage and skeletal deformation in fish, how this mutated to inflict mamals is unknown. M.H. was discovered and researched by Swiss microbiologists.

M.H. affects the central nervous system of the infected and causes him/her to have a craving for human or animal flesh as well as the urgre to attack almost anything he/she sees. The survivors of the 2003 Malasya outbreak clam that the infected show symptoms of dementia,rabies and malaria. The details documented in this tiny outbreak show us further details of Myxobolus Haemosteomyelitisnarcosa´s symptoms:

Stage 1. The person just drank water containing the parasite or received the parasite from the bodily fluids (saliva, blood, mucus) of somone already infected. Within 5 minutes the infectee will show the following symptoms:

-Blurred vision
-Drolling
-Anxiety
-Muscle spasms
-Vomiting and general nausea
-diarrehea
-Intense headache
-Muscle aches
-Strong sense of gained weight
-Irritability
-Violent behavior
-Highly dilated pupils
-High fever (39-41 C)







Stage 2. 15-30 minutes past infection time.
-Dementia
-Blindness or heavily darkened vision
-Tachycardia (rapid pulse)
- Strong drooling and foaming at the mouth
- Convulsions
- Blistering, reddish in coloration
-Bleeding from the eyes, mouth, ears, and rectum
-Hallucinications


Stage 3. 30-40 minutes past infection time.

-Complete loss of speach and verbal functions.
-Complete loss of hearing and vision.
-Large and inflamed bleeding sores.
-Screaming and crying(before loss of verbal funcitons)
-Jaundice of the skin.
-Intestinal disgorgement.
-Eyes covered with milky-white clouds and strongly bloodshot.
-Extreme and disturbing bodily convulsions.
-Victim collapses and slips into a short term coma.


Stage 4. 40-60 minutes past infection time.

-Physical mutations pccur during coma.
-Rapid skeletal and muscular growth.
-Victim begins to express aggressive cannibalistic tendencies
-Victim surges with energy and exploits heightened sense of smell to hunt for flesh.
-Body convulsions, closely followed by awakening.
-Moans and grunting, nonsensical use of vocal chords.















Jaw muscles rapidly grow making it easier for the infectee to bite through and chew human tissue.
M.H. will use the flesh of the infected for substance in order to maintain itself, this will make the infected look gruesome.
The combat Guide has the following to say about the physical effects of M.H. :
“Myxobolus Haemosteomyelitisnarcosa shares many physically mutative traits with Myxobolus Cerebralis. M. H. commands certain muscle groups to grow and strengthen. Some of the affected muscles control mastication (chewing) and movement. Other affected regions include the suprahyoids, the lateral cervical muscles, muscles of the thorax and abdomen, and the muscles of the upper limbs. The human skeleton is also mutated, some parts disfigured, others enhanced for function. The bones of the jaw, hands, vertebrae, and thigh all increase in size and density. Field observations have denoted fresh zombies to be incredibly strong due to these rapid muscular and musculoskeletal mutations. Although, vast quantities of energy, protein, and food stores are spent by the parasite while mutating the body. This consumption of food reserve in a fresh zombie is theorized to be the cause of extreme violence and hunger immediately following a transformation. Zombies will move with a slow, sluggish gait most of the time. If pursuing a potential meal, zombies are capable of running for very long distances at high speeds. It can be inferred from this data that the zombie is a mentally and physically venerable opponent to all humans.”


How to know zombies.
A zombie will appear like a walking corpse, almost skeletal and due to M.H. it will carry a strong smell. They will move in a slow and sluggish pace and stumble around
but when the see prey htey will run at a speed impossible for most people. It should be easy to see the difference beetween zombies and regular humans, and remember that when you see one try not to attract its attention, and if you do try to hit it on the head until you are a 100% sure it´s dead. Sense of smell is far more advanced in zombiews then it is in humans, so look out.






The Brooks Outbreak Scale.

The Brooks Outbreak Scale was created by author Max Brooks in his book “the zombie Survival Guide” although the book is meant tp be funny and very few of the things written in it have a basis in reality his class based ranking system is rather good.

"Although each zombie attack is different, given the number, terrain, reaction of the general populace, etc., its level of intensity can be measured in four distinct classes”


Class 1. aka “a walk in the park”

Class one means that the outbreak is minor, usally in a rural location or third world country. In a class one outbreak the number of infected individuals ranges beetween
1 and 20. Casualties, including those infected, range from 1 to 50. The duration of a class one should be somwhere beetween 24 hours and 14 days. Class one also means that the are of outbreak will be small. Response will be light and police and civilians should overpower the zombies with ease. Class one outbreaks get little or none media attention and if they do it is usally reported as mass homicides or accitents. Class one outbreaks are rather common.









Class 2.

A class two outbreak takes place in a denseley populated area. Total zobmies will range beetween 20 to100. Human casualties might reach a few hundred . Class two outbreaks will last a simular time as a class one outbreak since the higher number of zombies will cause a more powerfull response. Millitary officials will msot likley handle these outbreaks if not civilians should form groups to deal with the crisis.
A class two outbreak will without doubt be reported on by media although due to goverment cover-ups to prevent panic it will not be reported on accurately.
Very few class two outbreaks have taken place in the real world, only one is completly confirmed.


Class 3. aka “nightmere” or “deep shit”

A class three is an extreme crisis that will kill thousands and infect even more.
It will take place on a huge area and there will be no chance for a cover-up and the “undead” will engage humans in open battle millitary will probably assist law enforcement and civilians in thinning out the huge numbers of zombies and eventully killing them. While this takes place undead will surround the outbreak are and there will be no chance of escape exept for battle. Since all this takes time the crisis will last far longer then the other classes and riots,looting and mass hysteria and panic will slow down the sollution. A class three has never taken place and we can hope it never will.


Class 4. aka “dead world” or “zombie appocalypse”

A class four is to put it simply doomsday and the infected will outnumer the humans and become the dominant species on earth. Goverments will fall under the pressure and millions will die. A class four world is a dead world no civilization will survive exept for survivors living in fortified hideouts sorrounded by zombies. Some of those survivors will make a living by moving around and raiding other survivors for food and other items. If this happens mankind will have no hope.
















Rules of Survival.


I will now list the rules one must follow to surive in the event of a outbreak.

1. Aim for the head and don´t stop until you are a 100% sure the zombie is dead for good.

2. Always travel armed.

3.Never touch a dead zombie.

4.If a limb gets bitten by a zombie amputate at once and burn the ound closed with whatever means possible.

5.Use stealth as much as possible.

6. Always try to use a car for travel if you do not have access to a car or don´t know how to drive one use a bicycle or some other wheeled transport.

7.Remember to barricade all doors and windows in your home or stronghold.

8.Unlike what some people thinkl Malls are not good strongholds they will probably be filled with zombies and should be avoided unless your plan is good enough.

9.Try not to take on more then 1 zombie at a time.

10. Try to find a working TV,radio or computer to be able to know what is going on in the outside world.





Tips.

-When choosing and hidout always choose something that has enough exits and is hard enough for zombies to get into.

-To avoid getting zombie blood in your eyes use goggles, if not you might be blinded in the heat of battle or contract M.H. , something that goes into your eyes reaches your bloodstream faster then in normallyand getting infected blood into your bloodstream equals death.

-Although chainsaw are cool they are not very user friendly and running with them can be hard for beginners, killing a zombie with a chainsaw can also be extremeley messy.

-If you see grey matter on your blunt instrument after beating a zombie senseless you can stop, grey matter looks liek cottage cheese.

-Coca-Cola and other soft drinks are good supplys since they last almost forever and unlike drinking water they wont have the possibility to infect you with M.H.

-Plan before the event of a crisis have your gear readdy so that if the time comes you can react and survive.

-Although razor wire won´t stop zombies it will injure them and slow them down making them less of a problem.

-Don´t use molotov cockrtails or other fire based weapons on zombies they might run into your hideout while still on fire burn it down.

-Zombies won´t get tired so out running them is very hard, keep in good shape so if it comes to you will be ready.

-If the head is damaged enough it will kill the zombie, almost every other killing method is unaffective.

-Zombies are no longer human, if any of your friends and family should become one you should not hesitate to kill them, but only if you are 100% sure they have M.H. , voilence against living humans is wrong and should not be used under any circumstances.

-Zombies have a great sense of smell and always travel in big groups so be sure to be well hidden.

-It only takes one zombie to know where you are and the rest will follow.







-You won´t survive on your own always fight to sruvive with 2 or more people.

-Removing a zombies head will kill it.

-Know a cover-up when you see it. Stories of riots and mass murders are often cover-ups for outbreaks.

-Use a balanced weapon set and don´t try to use weapons you aren´t skilled with.

-Money is not important in a crisis, if forced to loot then only steal bare essentials.

-If faced by a class 4 try to find a place in the middle of nowhere were there will be few or none zombies then secure it with barbed wire fences and such.

-Escaping zombies on foot is not recomended.

-Infection is worse then death, make sure you wont get infected, and if you do then make sure you won´t be able to hurt anyone.

-Zombies are by nature aquaphobib so a fortress sorrounded by water is a good thing.

-If possible wear something to protect yourself from bites.

-Fresh zombies are more dangerous then old ones, make sure that all “dead” bodies really are dead.

-Never walk backwards.


Zombies always travel in hordes.





Gear.

mellée weapons.

It´s good to have close range weapons in case you get backed into a corner or have no access to firearms. It is best to have a weapon that is around 60 cm in length and it should be hardy enough to break a skull and they should also be hardy enoguh to last a few months in constanst use iron,steel, hard wood, hard plastic, carbon fiber, graphite, magnesium, titanium or a combanation of those is recomended. Ideally it should be heavier than 3 kg , and lighter than 13 kg .

Clothes.

When trying to survive an outbreak one msut dress right, you should use warm clothes taht don´t restrict your movement as well as something protective.

Recomended clothing.

Toolbelt to carry some melée weapons.

helmet to protect head.

somekind of neckguard to prevent biting of the neck.

protective gloves.

gun holsters.

kevlar vest, not needed but if law enforcement or millitary agents were to mistake you for a zombie and open fire it would be better to be protected.

Good running shoes.

Protection for knnecaps and elbows is prefered since survivors will have to spend a lot of time crawling around.

















Hide-outs.

When there is an outbreak you must find a safe place to hide until it is safe, you can use your own home or a public building such as a school,mall or place of buisness.
When picking a fortress or hide-out be sure that it has enough exits if you need to escape and that it´s hard for zombies to enter it. Basements are bad hide-outs sicne they usally onlu have one exit and entrance ant is very easy for a zombie to shamble down the stairs and eat you, but attics on the other hand are great since they can give a birds eye view of the area if you make a small hole on the wall and it is almost impossible for zombies to climb up to it, the only problem with most attics is that they are dirty and vermin infested and you can get numerous illnesses from staying there but the dirt and vermin can also mask your scent making it harder for the zombies ot detect you. Attics can also get alot colder then basements in the winter Make sure you nail all windows shut with something so the infected hordes will have problems breaking through.

Make sure that the area around the fortress/hide-out is secure, a razor wire fence
should slow zombies down and a zombie covered with cuts shouldn´t be as hard as other zombies to deal with, you can also add spikes (sharpened wood or metal poles)
use quick dry cement to put the spikes into 60 cm deep hoels facing the fence and make sure that your spikes stick at least 1,5 m out of the hole. Another good defence is moats, zombies hava aquaphobia and are scared of water a water filled ditch should keep most of them away, also you could just get to Alcatraz fortify it a little and use it as your fortress. Bear traps around the spikes and fence should make sure zombies won´t get any further, mine fields hae the same effect but are much harder to place
and maintain iwht out accidents.

Mine fields are only to be used if you have experiance in placing exsplosives if not you might accidently blow yourself into oblivion.

Malls are not very good fortresses since htey will without doubt be packed with zombies but on the other hand survivors living in malls have very easy access
to supplies, and it worked in Dawn of the Dead (at least for some time, until the sh*t hit the fan ) .
