An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 14 years in prison Monday for the death of an infant that was partially caused by a Nintendo game controller. Pathologists said the child died from blunt force injuries to the head and strangulation. The head injuries matched a Nintendo game controller found at the house, RTV6 reported.

“Murder is pretty vicious to begin with, injuries to people are terrible, but when it happens to someone who is 20 months old who could do nothing to defend himself is particularly gruesome,” the Deputy Prosecutor said.

Prosecutors offered the suspect a plea to a charge less than murder because some of the evidence was shaky, and the victim's mother was not cooperative. The man will be on probation for four years after he completes his prison term. The judge said he will not be allowed to have unsupervised contact with children. Before this most recent crime, the suspect had been arrested 23 times – 16 times as an adult and seven times as a juvenile, RTV6 reported.
