Sony reveals Euro broadband plan

Sony has finally announced details of its European broadband plans for PS2, with a phased roll-out beginning in the UK next spring.

A Broadband Gaming Pack, which will include a PlayStation 2 Ethernet adaptor, online game and start-up discs will be available at a price of £44.99.

A range of ‘network enhanced’ titles will also become available at the same time including SOCOM: US Navy Seals; Hardware: Online Arena; Destruction Derby Online; Twisted Metal Online; Frequency 2; My Street; ATV Offroad; This Is Football 2004 and World Rally Championship Online.

In addition, the firm will be launching a PS2-specific version of the hugely popular online title Everquest.

After launching in the UK, the system will be gradually introduced in Germany, France, Spain, Australia and other territories throughout 2003.

SCEE president Chris Deering, said: ”PlayStation 2 owners with broadband internet access will be able to purchase a Broadband Gaming Pack and immediately start playing a great selection of multiplayer games online.

“It will be simple to set up, exciting to play and affordable. Our philosophy is to have a very diverse and inclusive platform that will enable content companies, games publishers and ISP portals to provide customers with the broadest selection of new online experiences and entertainment from a variety of sources.”
