World of Call of Duty?

When Activision and Blizzard announced they were merging, we knew it wouldn't be long before two of the world's biggest gaming franchises may be considering turning Call of Duty into a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game.

Click to Enlarge Bobby Kotick, Activision CEO, addressed a group of investment analysts that the company is considering turning the Call of Duty game into an MMO.

In the fastest growing market in the world, Kotick said at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference;

What would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively-multiplayer environment and how do you monetize that?

Kotick pointed at in-game advertising as well, and now it really sounds like Activision are actually having a serious thoughts about this by pushing Call of Duty into the MMO direction. Activision will be looking at World of Warcraft's (paying) subscriber base to make the game successful whilst Blizzard could be looking at breaking into the Xbox Live market via Call of Duty's popularity.
