Torrent - Ritgerð á ensku Ég var látinn gera ritgerð í skólnum um Torrent, á ensku. Hér er það sem kom úr því:

Torrent – Come to be, or go to hell?

Torrent is a word we all know. Torrent is a program used through the internet for downloading music, movies, books, porn and almost everything. There are thousands of people who use torrent. However, uploading which is connected to downloading on Torrent is illegal! It is against the law to upload ( Put things on the internet that you don‘t own yourself ). The website www.istorrent.is was open for downloading and uploading movies, music, programs, episodes, porn and everything people could think of putting in there. Over 26.000 Icelandic people used Istorrent. But SMÁÍS (Samtök Myndrétthafa Á Íslandi, Sometimes calld Samtök Málhaltra Álfa Í Stuttbuxum, which means League of retarded elfs in shorts) closed Istorrent and everything went crazy in Iceland. The Owner of Istorrent is going to trial because he was keeping the website open to download and upload. More Icelandic websites have been opened, but closed after this happened. Like www.icetorrent.net and www.DCI.is , doesn’t exist anymore. Now people are fighting for if Torrent should be allowed or not. People are fighting for if uploading and downloading should be allowed and why it should be allowed, or why it should not be allowed.

Although, the question is, why is one man‘s idea different from another man‘s idea about Torrent? I know about three things that can cause people‘s idea of this case, firstly: He thinks he‘s losing something and he will be losing something if it won’t go his way. Secondly: He doesn’t like the opposition’s idea of this case. And thirdly: He doesn’t know anything about this yet, but he just picked something to say. I‘m personally supporting Torrent and I want it to be legal. I even tell about download on my webpage, www.nethjalpin.centra.is (Not very active at the moment but that isn't the thing…) I have very many reasons and I will gladly tell the world. I‘m not sure where to start, but I‘ll try to add my strongest points. For example, Stöð 2 have paid for showing the episodes Næturvaktin and people have paid Stöð 2 to watch Næturvaktin, so they have right to watch. Also Skjár einn have paid for showing the episodes Heroes. And Skjáreinn get paid for what they are showing. So, what they are showing in the TV is fully legal. But when we want to get it on the internet, it‘s illegal! Even when we have paid for it! Maybe we missed the show on the TV and we want to watch it but we can’t unless we download it. Often and almost every time, someone did really pay for showing the movies, the music and all the stuff people are fighting about. But someone has to give a comment because he wants something more. Downloading is good if we miss out episodes or we miss out on a song in the radio. We have paid for it, why not get it, just with other ways? With downloading we can see what films are good and what films are bad. We don‘t want to buy a movie that we suddenly see that is bad and is not funny in any way. When I personally find a very good movie I want to buy it and have it on a DVD. Shops in Iceland think they‘re losing money because people are downloading music and movies. But, it is caused by their own fault because movies and music CD’s cost so much in Iceland, people don’t want to buy them as much as they want to do because it costs so much. If the movies and music were cheaper I would go and buy more of it than I do now. Now, we come to a big point. People didn‘t maybe realize, but downloading is green! Every time a new movie I really like comes to Iceland, I go to Reykjavík by car to watch it in a theatre because there is no place near where I live where I can walk to, to watch it. Therefore we are saving the environment by downloading. By watching downloaded movies, I don’t have to drive to the cinema and pollute the environment. There are few people, who do not care about these things, or they care only about money, they go and whine if something happens they don’t like. Like one unnamed gay artist we all know. I have nothing to say against gays, I could tell you in details I have nothing against gays to say, but that would just make this longer. Now we get to SMÁÍS (League of you know what…), they are crying about the fact that they lose money on downloading. But, they are forgetting one thing. They get 1% of every hard drive, CD, pc and everything that is connected to computers. They say they are losing money because of downloading, but they earn so much money because people need for example bigger hard drives, more CD’s and more computer things to keep the downloaded stuff. So people buy it, and SMÁÍS get money for it. If no one would download, not many would have the need for all this.

But as always, there always has to be a weak spot. On the one hand I understand that artists think that they are getting robbed, and on the other hand I understand that people don‘t want us to break the law. And I have to add another weak spot, porn. Yes, porn. Porn is illegal in Iceland, and Torrent and downloading is making it easier for teenagers and adult people to get access to it. So I get why you are crying and whining, we are creating a world full of perverts while we are breaking the laws. But moreover, you people are wrong about you only lose when your work goes on the internet. You are just so wrong. It‘s very simple, when someone downloads your song, and he likes it, he thinks like this: Hell yeah, I want to hear more from this artist, he‘s amazing. And he goes to buy things that this artist made, because he likes him so much he wants to own what the artist has created himself and he want to have access to even when he‘s not with his computer. So, by using Torrent people can find what artist and what music they like, and that artist will get famous. So he should thank Torrent for telling everybody about him in an easy way.
I can tell you a story. Many of us know that Lordi have won Eurovision with the song Hard Rock Hallelujah. I like the song, but I didn‘t know that more songs existed from the band, or the group, and I didn‘t think about it. I just thought of them like a normal Eurovision winner group. But, when I started to download, I found out that they had a lot more songs. So many, but I wasn’t sure if they were good. I don’t think I would have bought their CD’s, so I downloaded it, and do you know what? I love this band, I want to buy all their albums and I will. Then my point has come to you and you are maybe getting to get my point. Now, for the porn. Banning porn in Iceland is of course crap. Porn is something that has lived with the human being for long time. Porn is something most people need. So limiting the access for it is just something that isn‘t right. And I want to bet that people who say it‘s illegal in Iceland, watch it anyway in some ways. Like I said in the first place, downloading is good, green, fast, safe, and no one is exactly losing anything. It‘s just commercialism for the artists. As I said, in some cases, we have already paid for the stuff. Now for the point I have been waiting for who whole time, why is Síminn, Ogvodafone, Hive and all these companies allowed to sell „Erlent niðurhal“. They sell access of how many people can download from other countries. If that is allowed, why is Torrent not allowed? But as I have said, this should all be allowed.

Now you people hopefully understanding that downloading is fine. Artists earn money with downloading because they get it commercialised on the internet. SMÁÍS get money because people buy computers and stuff like that and part of the money goes to them. By downloading we have access to movies we want to know if they are good or bad. We can see TV shows we have missed and we can‘t possibly see them unless downloading them. There is always a flaw, but one flaw can’t fight over so many other good things. Torrent should be allowed, downloading and uploading should all be fine. No one should be crying about this, we should all be friends and download.

Það gæti verið ein og ein villa, en give it a break :)
